A MESSAGE FROM THE VICAR- A WORD ABOUT ST. MARGARET'S

St. Margaret's is an Episcopal parish within the Diocese of New York. It is a vibrant community that affirms and celebrates catholic faith and sacraments in the boundless freedom of the gospel. Our Bishop is the Rt. Rev. Mark S. Sisk, our Suffragen Bishop is the Rt. Rev. Catherin Roskam, our Assistant Bishop is the Rt. Rev. E. Don Taylor.

The source and summit of our common life in the Spirit is our weekly celebration of the Holy Eucharist, wherein the one enduring sacrifice of Christ is made present and effective in our lives. Eucharistic worship at St. Margaret's is both deeply traditional and genuinely contemporary. It is true to our apostolic roots, expressed in reformation simplicity and open to the call of the twenty-first century. All baptized persons who discern the Eucharist to be a sharing in the very body and blood of the risen Christ are invited to join in the reception of Holy Communion.

The members of our church come from a wide variety of religious traditions within the Christian family. Formal membership in the Episcopal Church is not a requirement for membership in the parish, but is readily facilitated, if and when the Spirit moves individuals to make this decision and commitment. Those coming from Roman Catholic or Orthodox traditions are simply received into this communion by the bishop. Those coming from sister churches that do not maintain an historic episcopate enter the Episcopal Church by receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. We are an inclusive parish. At St. Margaret's ALL are accepted as they are, and NO ONE is judged. The faith family at St. Margaret's makes every effort to be welcoming and embracing without being overwhelming or invasive.

All parishioners contribute of their time, talents and treasure to the nurture and support of our fellowship in Christ and maintenance of the historic and beautiful sanctuary in which we gather for worship.

Our faith family is committed to serving the needs of those who live on the social and economic margins of society. Parish outreach efforts are directed toward the hungry and the homeless in the wider community. A second offering is taken up each Sunday for Outreach Programs.

The church building is a precious jewel set in the beautiful and historic Hudson Valley. Built in 1892 by the Livingston-Mills Family, it is a place of safe keeping for two 13th century stained glass windows brought from the Chartre region in France, as well as one from the Tiffany Studios.

When you make your first visit, please know that you will be most welcome. If you have visited with us before, we would be truly happy to see you again. If you are a believer in Jesus looking for a faith family you might call home, please know that we already embrace you as a sister or brother in Christ. If you are searching for God, or a deeper knowledge of God, please know that you are not alone and that we would be privileged to share the journey with you.
